This was an unsual commission: ‘translating’ from American English and adapting to British culture the social phenomenon of the ‘yuppie’ (Young Urban Professional) – even though it had not yet properly hit the UK. The original authors’ use of the word in the title is, in fact, the earliest example recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary.
